April 20, 2015 by Gina Thelemann in Articles

In honor of Arbor Day, we decided to reconnect with nature this week. We spend so much time discussing housing values and equity, but sometimes neglect to focus on one of the biggest benefits of being a homeowner: having a lawn that you can perfectly manicure, landscape… or decorate with plastic pink flamingo statues. And don't forget the backyard cookouts and kickball games!

This week, our team of data scientists dove into the towns and cities with the lowest building to lot ratios. Behold, the 10 markets where your wife can absolutely not fault you for buying a riding lawnmower!

Methodology

  • Market = Metropolitan CBSA
  • Population >= 100k
  • Median lot size <= 100 Acres
  • Building to lot ratio = median building area / median lot size in sqft
